Wow. It’s been a hot minute since I wrote a post. It feels like forever and yet no time has passed at all.
I figured a little brain dump/ life update was long overdue, so here it is.
Since last writing, there has been the big wave of the Black Lives Matter movement quickly taking over social media and it seems to have slackened off. This movement is NOT over. It is still very relevant and happening today and we need to keep amplifying the voices of those who need it. We need to be allies!
With all of this going on, as well as the pandemic still being very real with people also seeming to think things are back to normal… I felt that I needed a break. I was feeling really overwhelmed with the media and news being so in your face everyday, but I’m back. It’s important that we take breaks as we need them, but do not stop.
I am still flying through books like crazy, I just finished my 10th book so far this year, so that is REALLY impressive for me. I just finished Michelle McNamara’s book I’ll Be Gone in the Dark. A true crime book all about the Golden State Killer who managed to slide under the radar for FOUR decades before his arrest and it was SO good. Highly recommend it – and then go and watch the documentary series on HBO. I just started that one, so will update when I’m done that, too.
I don’t know about you, but here in BC, we have been hit with full on summer all of a sudden. It was off to a cool start and now it is in full swing. High 30’s and it is just way too hot for my liking.. I know there is controversy around a hot summer versus a cooler one, but I tend to like the weather to be around 24 degrees. Are you a hot summer or a cooler summer person? Let me know in the comments!
I also have decided to put a hold on my shop page on this blog and stick to Instagram for now as my platform. As I grow, I will probably end up switching to a different platform.
I am learning over time – especially with this pandemic and a lot of time at home for reflection – that ideas often have to change and evolve. It is so easy to get caught up in the comparison of where this person is in life or how this person who seemed to get it right the first time.. None of that matters! All that matters is you’re happy! I have had ideas and gotten really excited for them, only to change my mind later and realize it didn’t fully align with me. That’s OKAY.
I’ve thought about going back to school then the pandemic happened and I ended up pulling my deposit, which also meant we didn’t have to move. We thought about moving somewhere else, but again the pandemic was making that difficult. So we did end up moving the beginning of July, but not very far from our last place.
I’ve spent a lot of time since moving reading, doing DIY’s, coming up with ideas for my handcrafted items – shopping tote bags, scrunchies, bookmarks, crocheted baskets. Lots of fun things on the horizon. I am thinking of doing a little house tour post with my DIY’s and how I’ve decorated/a few future decor plans. Just waiting on one of our closets to be repaired so I can get the last of the boxes put away!
Keep your eyes peeled for a blog post coming soon on the cutest gardens that Matt and I visited a few weeks back. Sneak Peek below 😉
Anyways, I hope this blog post finds you well. I know it was a bit all over the place, but I am hoping this gets me back in the game of blogging more regularly again. Sometimes a break is necessary and it’s important to be able to recognize that.
