Growing up, I hated porridge. If I had those instant oatmeal packs, I made sure to only add half the water it recommended and ate it while it was still a bit crunchy. It’s weird I know, but it was the only way I could eat it. Haha Please tell me I wasn’t the only one?!
Now that my pallet has matured, I like porridge. Of course, I don’t always roll out of bed early enough to make a good breakfast, so I often grab a bagel on the way out the door and eat it while I take transit to work, but this is where the overnight oats come in very handy. They’re quick, the flavour combos are endless and can be eaten warm or cold!
What You’ll Need:
Jar or Container with a Lid
1/2 Cup Rolled Oats
Milk of your choice
Scoop of Yogurt – Optional
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 TBSP Chia Seeds
1 TBSP Maple Syrup
I honestly don’t measure my things except the oats.. You can adjust as you like and add pretty much anything you fancy. So here is my basic recipe 🙂
1. In your jar combine Oats, Cinnamon, Chia and Maple Syrup.
2. Pour milk (I like coconut or cashew) to cover the oats and stir in some yogurt for extra creamy oatmeal. Stir well to combine.
3. If I am adding frozen fruit, I would add it now. Right now I just have blueberries, so I throw them on top and sprinkle some ground flax and hemp hearts on top. Cover and place in the fridge overnight.
4. Wake up and grab as you’re running out the door or pop in the microwave for 30 seconds to warm it up.
