My summer off has been flying by, but its been so lovely. This past week, I went camping on the Island for part of the August long weekend and into the week with Matt and it was so lovely. We had sunshine the whole trip and camped right along the Englishman River.
We spent most of our time in the Parksville/Nanaimo area with a little day trip out to Tofino (which may have been a little crazy, but we made the best of it!)
Our first night there, we arrived around dinner time, so spent most of our time enjoying a fire and reading. I started reading Educated by Tara Westover and it is SO good. You can find it here and if you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend.
Monday Morning – we got up and drove into Parksville for some Coffee and Breakfast at Gabriel’s then headed out to Tofino to visit the original Tacofino Taco truck.
On our way back into town, we stopped at the Shed for a drink. I got a Jasmine and Hibiscus Kombucha from Tofino Kombucha and it was really delicious. Light and not too sweet. Matt got a Latte and it was the BEST latte I’ve had in a while.
Tuesday we got up and headed to Pacific Brim Coffee to get the best Sex in a Pan only to find out they were sold out.. 🙁
We then went onto a Surprise location Matt had picked out for me and it was the Coombs Old Country Market which has GOATS on the roof. They’re so cute. We then went on to check out the Butterfly Gardens, saw some really weird Owl Caterpillars and a 23year old Tortoise named Samson.
We then headed back to Parksville to visit my cousin for Lunch. We went to Realm and it was SO good we went back later for some Vegan Coconut Ice cream. Between lunch and Ice cream, we went and checked out the Sand Sculpture Competition and saw some really good pieces. After the Ice cream, we went and did a little “hike” which was more of an easy trail walk to the Englishman River Falls.
Wednesday was our final day and with our ferry reservation not until dinner time, we enjoyed the day around Nanaimo. We went back to Gabriels for lunch, checked out the Nanamio Museum for some ghost stories, history about the mining, bathtub races, and some mugshots. It is only $2 and I definitely would recommend it if you have an hour to kill.
Last stop was The Buzz for Coffee and some AMAZING Carrot Cake.
So that was the extent of our 4 days camping on Vancouver Island. Definitely will be going back to stay in Tofino next time, but until then ?
Any recommendations for my next trip?
