I have always been a bit of a “I want to make everything I can” person. Whether it be gardening, canning, sewing etc. I just love it.
Something about knowing you grew or made thing thing entirely on your own is really rewarding.
Recently I went upto the Okanagan to go camping and came home with Peaches, Plums and Apricots. They all were bought with the intention to be canned/turned into jam/sauce.
First up were the peaches – and we made a Drunken Peach Sauce. All we did was added some Spiced Rum (I didn’t have Bourbon on hand) and let it boil away so you’re left with the cinnamon-y spices from the rum.
Next up was a batch of Apricot Lavender Jam (which didn’t set as much as I’d like, so I ended up with more of a sauce consistency, but great for Pancakes, Waffles, French Toast, Crepes, Butter and Toast, Cheesecake Topper, Scones.. the list goes on.
Lastly was the Plum Jam and Oh My It is so Delicious!! It set up very nicely and I pureed it in the food processor with the skins on, so it ended up a beautiful dark pink.
Next up will be some Pickled Carrots and Beans, which are always delicious!
As far as sewing goes, I grew up wearing handmade clothes from my grandma and I always had the most stylish prints on.
More recently, I have made a formal dress in HighSchool for a project, and most recently a Button up Shirt for myself WITHOUT the use of a pattern. Just used a shirt I already owned as a template.
I’ve recently joined the Etsy Community and have been making reusable produce bags as well as makeup remover pads which are so soft!
I will link it here if you’d like to give it a little gander. I have lots of ideas up my sleeve, so stay tuned and make sure you favourite my shop to see all my latest.
I also crochet, so I love to make Dishcloths and Toques, as they work up fast.
As far as gardening and growing my own food goes, I am slightly limited on what I can actually grow, as I only have a balcony and although it is a larger balcony, I am limited to container gardening. This year has been more successful than last years, but I had no luck with Beets or Carrots this year. Lettuce, Beans and Peas were GREAT though. My Basil has been better than ever and I even got three little flowers on my Chamomile. I grew a little pot of Wildflowers that attract butterflies, bees and all the good animals you want for your garden that eat the aphids and pollinate your garden.
Anything you just LOVE doing? I find so much satisfaction in knowing all the love and energy that goes into producing something and having a good end result. Always love a new DIY Challenge and finding ways to improve myself and the planet. Let me know in the comments below if there is anything you think I should make, or even anything I should add to my Etsy Shop.
