The second half of February was just as full and busy as the first two, but it’s so lovely. I’m really enjoying having more sunshine these days and although it’s still pretty cold with the wind some days, it could be much worse.
I have been studying for my Midterm exam this week – I still feel very unprepared and a lot of self doubt is creeping in that I’m not good enough for University. Learning a second language is HARD! Anyways, my only goal is to pass this class so I can move onto the classes I’m really excited for. (More on that another day)
We started out the second half of the month with a trip to Cafe Amarti. They got a bunch of new plants and it was total #plantgoals. We then went on our trip to Vancouver Island Feb 18-20th which was MUCH needed, even if our hotel check in was so disorganized and unprofessional to the point that we got upgraded to a better room. Yay us!
Day 1: We went to Englishman River Falls, which are at one of their highest points right now due to rainfall and not being a hot, dry summer like when we last visited.
Stopped by Realm for lunch (bowls below) and a Vegan GF Brownie with Caramel Sauce. Seriously, their caramel sauce is SO good. I’m working on creating a Caramel Sauce myself, so stay tuned for that!
Met the cutest pug named Milo in a little shop and then went back to our hotel to just chill after a long day. Ordered Room service for dinner and just watched the sunset over the ocean.
Day 2: We woke up to the sunrise which I don’t get to do in my apartment at all. Headed to Qualicum Beach for coffee at French Press and it was so cute! I got an Oat mylk Mocha and Matt had a Flat White.
After coffee, we went for a little walk around and found a cute store called Alcove. Everything in their shop is from within 100 miles! I got a ring and the cutest snail button.
Wanted to stop by the museum, but they were closed, so we headed down to Rathtrevor Beach which was beautiful! There were walking trails, a low tide, and wild bunnies! I loved seeing bunnies and the ocean in one place. There were some seals (or something around that size) jumping out of the water shortly off the shore, but weren’t able to tell what it was exactly.
We also went to Little Qualicum Falls this day and it was so cold, but oh so lovely. All the trees, greenery and water. Eventually ended up back at Realm for dinner, which I’m okay with. I love it there.
Day 3: This last day was pretty chill. We headed into Nanaimo to Gabriels for brunch. PS. If you’ve never been to Gabriels, add it to your list for when you’re on the island! It does not disappoint.
After brunch, we stopped by Regard Coffee for their 5th birthday! Minimalist coffee shop, but it was really nice. I had their house Chai with Rooibos tea and Nut Mylk.
After coffee, we still had a little bit of time until the ferry home, so we decided to stop by The Buzz. We played a couple games of our travel sized checkers and then sat at the ferry terminal – walked a few laps, too.
Lastly, on the ferry ride home we managed to see some WHALES! I don’t even remember the last time I saw whales while taking the ferry, so that was super special. Popped into Tsawwassen Mills for a look around – nothing special there, just Matt had never been.
After getting home, we settled back into the busy routine of school, work and some social events. I had a few cooking shifts at my casual job, so those kept me busy in between studying.
I stopped by MCC to check out their 50% off clothing sale and got myself some courdory pants for $2! They’re so comfy and a nice neutral brown/mustard colour (photographed above in the middle photo).
We stopped by Decades to do some studying on the 29th and then headed to my mums for a quick visit before going to a Surprise Birthday Party for my grandpa. Saw family I hadn’t seen in years and of course had to spend some time with his cat. He has the fluffiest cat that I just wanted to take home, but I know Charlie probably wouldn’t be too impressed if I brought another cat home. He really likes to be the Alpha cat. Haha
So that’s a wrap for February already. It’s gone SO much faster than January did and I’m sure March will go just as fast with two weeks of dogsitting the latter half. Hope you had a lovely February. I’m ready for more sunshine and less bundling up to go outside.
